Drew & Julie Durrant, owned and operated Mack’s Inn Playhouse from May 2008 until September 2012. With the Durrant’s at the helm Mack’s Inn Playhouse became a destination for family friendly musicals spoofs for the Greater Yellowstone Area. They would perform 70 shows each summer and squeeze them all in between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Sawtell Peak Road is a great destination for anyone that enjoys sweeping views. It takes you more than 9,800 feet to great 360-degree views of 3 different states. This makes a perfect unique stop to anyone visiting nearby Yellowstone. It is a very well-graded dirt road. It is open to all vehicles. If the conditions are bad, you would need something with 4×4, but most of the time it is not at all necessary. 1959 Earthquake forms Quake Lake West of Yellowstone On Aug. 17, 1959 the earth around Yellowstone shook. At 11:37 p.m. a 7.3 magnitude earthquake devastated Hebgen Lake, Montana, located in Yellowstone’s northwestern region. On August 17, 1959, near midnight, an earthquake near the Madison River triggered a massive landslide. The slide moved at 100 mph and in less than 1 minute, over 80 million tons of rock crashed into the narrow canyon, blocking the Madison River and forming Earthquake Lake. From Ashton, ID, take State Rt. 47 east 5.3 miles to Yellowstone National Park/Cave Falls sign. Turn right at sign and go 18.3 miles to campground sign. Turn right at sign into campground. NOTE: After 5.9 miles, the access road enters Targhee National Forest and becomes Forest Rt. 582 with gravel surface. After 16.7 miles, the road becomes paved again upon entering Wyoming.
